Directorate
The Directorate is responsible for supervising the activities of the Registry in relation to investing in equipment and personnel, setting up new projects, and internal and external training. These activities are conducted in collaboration with the Administrative Office (contracts, billing, budgets, final balances arising from contracts) and the technical organization of the Institute of Informatics and Telematics. The Directorate is also in charge of organizing public events (conferences, meetings, seminars, etc.) and maintaining relations with the Ministry of Economic Development - Communications Department and with institutional organizations.
Head of the Italian Registry
Domenico Laforenza is director of the Institute of Informatics and Telematics of the Italian National Research Council in Pisa. He is also the head of the Italian Registry of first level .it domains.
In March 2009 he was appointed by the Italian Ministry of Education as the Italian representative of the “Future Internet Forum of the Member States” which is part of the “The Future of the Internet” project supported by the European Union’s 7th Framework Programme.
From 2006 to September 2009, Dr. Laforenza was a member of the scientific committee of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) of the Italian National Research Council.
From 1981 to 2008 he headed up the “High Performance Computing” laboratory at the Institute of Information Science and Technologies of the Italian National Research Council.
Dr. Laforenza was a member of the Next Generation Grid Expert Group from 2003 to 2007. This group was set up by the European Commission to prioritize future research projects relating to Grid technologies.
He has also been a consultant for various research agencies in the EU including Austria, France, the Irish Republic, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
He graduated in Information Sciences in 1997 at the University of Pisa
