Steps to register a domain

There are five steps to register a domain

1 check eligibility
2 choice of name
3 choice of Maintainer
4 filling out the Letter of assumption of responsibility (LAR)
5 signing and sending the Letter of assumption of responsability (LAR)
To register a .it domain name you need to be 18 or over and belong to one of the member states of the European Union.
A domain name can be registered by a natural person or by a person who is not a natural person (public bodies, companies, associations, individuals with a VAT number, etc). The person or entity that registers a .it domain is called a Registrant. The domain chosen must be available (not yet registered) and assignable (not part of the list of reserved or geographical domains).

To register a challenged domain go to the section New registration of a challenged domain.
Once the name has been identified, the Registrant must contact a Maintainer and fill in the Letter of assumption of responsibility (LAR).
The LAR must be signed by the Registrant and sent to the Registry:

  • via fax to +39 050-542420 (or to  +39 050-577639 only for domains cancelled less than seven days ago)
  • via mail or courier to the Registry:

LARs delivered by hand are not accepted.

The Registry examines the LAR and the electronic form sent by the Maintainer (the email that contains all the technical information and data of the Registrant for the chosen domain): if the data are correct and match, the domain is registered and made available online.
