When does a domain expire?

.it domain names have a duration of a year, which:

  • starts from the registration of the domain name;
  • or from the date of the last change (change of Maintainer or change of Registrant, e.g. a domain name registered on 30 June 2009 for Paperino Ltd. and then transferred on 1 February 2010 to Topolino Ltd. expires on 1 February 2011).

The maintenance service of the domain name is tacitly renewed from year to year, unless rescinded, the request for which must arrive at the Registry within 15 days following the annual expiry.
You are strongly advised to keep a close check on the duration of the contract you have established with your ISP.
