Rules of good conduct
The purpose of the rules of good conduct is to promote the use of domains by increasing the confidence of end users, and enhancing the use of the Web in a fair and balanced way.
The rules aim to encourage a relationship of trust between Maintainers and end-users and to discourage inappropriate behaviour e.g. from indiscriminate buying up of domain names to spamming, or attempts to slow down or undermine the registration system.
Underwriting a commitment to observe the "rules of good conduct" by the Maintainer is completely voluntary, and not underwriting does not preclude in any way the signing of the contract with the Registry.
From 1 July 2010 it is no longer possible to draw up "Maintainer" contracts, i.e. contracts for asynchronously registering .it domain names. All contracts expire on 31 December 2010.
