The Registrar is an Internet service provider that has a contract with the Registry to manage the  .it, edu.it and gov.it domains.

The Registry does not, in fact, register domains directly on behalf of end users.

Each Registrar, in maximum autonomy, offers services of every level and price, from the simple registration of a domain name to the creation of websites, to the provision of Internet connectivity, to the provision of highly specialized services. Each Registrar independently establishes the costs of registration and maintenance of the .it, edu.it and gov.it domains.

To register a .it and edu.it domains names you must contact a Registrar.
