The Registro .it has a new manager: as of 1 September 2024, Andrea Passarella succeeds Marco Conti as the new director of the CNR Institute for Informatics and Telematics (CNR-IIT) and, consequently, in the role of head of the Registro .it.
Dr Passarella, research manager at CNR and former head of the CNR-IIT Ubiquitous Internet Research Unit, has coordinated and acted as CNR Principal Investigator in several European, national and regional research projects in the fields of mobile networks, the Internet of the future, cyber-physical systems, distributed AI.
He is involved in several initiatives of Higher Education, including the college of the Italian National Doctorate in Artificial Intelligence - AI & Society.
Since January 2023, he has been the scientific coordinator of the CNR Spoke and a member of the Technical Scientific Committee of the NRRP project RESTART (Telecommunications of the Future), the largest national research initiative in the field of post-5G networks currently active.
In addition, the new director was:
- in 2016, co-founder of the international journal Elsevier Online Social Networks and Media, of which he is Associate Editor-in-Chief;
- General and Technical Program Chair and held various roles on the organising committees of numerous international conferences in his research areas;
- from 2019 to 2023, elected member of the Scientific Council of the Department of Engineering, ICT and Technologies for Energy and Transportation (CNR DIITET). Between 2020 and 2021, he was an ANVUR member of the Disciplinary GEV for Area 1 - Mathematical and Computer Sciences, for the VQR 2015-19.
In his research career, Passarella has published more than 230 scientific papers in international journals and conference proceedings in the fields of the Internet of the Future, mobile networks, social networks, distributed AI, and the Quantum Internet, receiving 5 Best Paper Awards from international conferences.
