The 2022 numbers show a marked slowdown in .it domain registrations, with the final count for December numbering 475,768 new names registered, for a total of 3,467,693. If, during the pandemic and lockdown years, there had been a +4.20% growth in 2020 and a +2.24% growth in 2021, there is a 0.50% further growth in 2022 than in 2021, with an annual increase of only 17,356 .it names (net of deletions, which totalled 458,412), and a decrease of 13%, again compared to 2021.

It is important to point out, that this trend, in reality, is not an Italian exception, but rather a global phenomenon: the moment of stagnation is registered all over the world, probably associated, in part, with the latest international events, the health emergency (still ongoing) and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, as well as socio-economic uncertainties, which are resulting in heavy repercussions on consumption by businesses and citizens, who are experiencing increases on bills and services.

To find a similar trend in the history of .it, it is necessary to jump back 17 years, to 2008, when uncertainty and economic emergency had set very low rates of .it presence on the Web, only to rise again from 2010-2011.
